new hatching
remember last fall when i was curious about all those woolly worms that we had all over the porch and everywhere? i was so excited thinking that we might be getting some huge batch of beautiful butterflies in the spring or something. i requested info from the group.
well, i learned that was not the case. everyone was so helpful, but i was rather disappointed when i found out the truth about these caterpillars. they weren't really going to be butterflies, but moths. well, they were kind of pretty moths, so i wasn't really that disappointed.
we met our first moth two days ago. he flew in the house so fast i couldn't catch him, but i knew i would be on the lookout for him. i recognized him immediately! he was one of the transformed woolly worms! from the number of woolly worms last summer, i'm sure we're going to be infested with these moths very soon! i managed to catch him after he had a go-round with the cat, but he was still in pretty good shape.
i have full-resolution pictures if anyone wants to use one for a drawing. this one wasn't quite as pretty as the example one that i found a picture of, but he's not too bad!

Ok, darnit, Raven wants to know if Memaw killed the butterfly? It's a pretty butterfly and you can't just stomp things, 'less they're ants and then that's ok but only when they're ants because you just don't stomp other things like, like, like (she's thinking) snakes and stuff. And no butterflies!
That kinda gives me the creeps. :) A girl from my highschool had a moth crawl and burrow into her ear while she was asleep in bed and had to go to the Emergency Room to get it out. Ever since then she sleeps w/ cotton balls in her ears, and I veer away from moths. =:o
Well, he does have kind of pretty little fringes on his wings ... but the moth in the ear story gives me the creeps! :-D
