black pen zentangle

often while we are sitting and watching television at evenings, i am doing some sort of drawing or artwork to keep my mind occupied. this zentangle is one of those very situations -- something to relax the mind and boost the creativity level! even with the "meditative" mindset these are supposed to provide, i still fee quite pressured while doing them for them to be perfect!

this drawing is done in a wire-bound journal on white paper with a black ballpoint pen. the date of the drawing is 4/2009, knowing that i worked on it 3-4 different evenings. it has not been sprayed with any sealant or protectant.

I like this very much. For all the detail, it's not busy and it's very well balanced.

I'd protect it with sealant.

It's a lovely zentangle! What kind of black ballpoint did you use? On my monitor it has a lovely sepia tone to it in places. I thought you had watercolored parts. Very nice!

Beautiful! I've started doodling while waiting for various machines at work,
but nothing on this scale.

You are really great at zentangles. I may well be the first person to ever
be tossed out of a doodling class. Mine are awful!I even went out and
purchased a book to see if that would help. It's something about eyeballing
it and free hand. My shapes aren't even. I almost need a ruler and a circle
to help with the shapes! Maybe...I am just hooked on perfection. And I am
not getting any with this!

Amazing. For two reasons. One, that you finished such a cool design. (I start lotsa stuff and don't get done. Too many things I want to do in life. I'm like my spazter pup in some ways.) Two, I watch YouTube while on the treadmill, love mandalas, typed "how to make" or "create mandalas" and saw a great video on exactly this same thing a couple days ago. Never seen "zentangles" before that. Was trying to get caught up on emails so skimmed a lot of the topics on this listserver. Glad I didn't miss this one!

Oh THAT's what they're called! I'd seen the discussion
here and kept meaning to look the term up but forgot to.
I used to do those all the time and I know I have at least
one journal cover that's a "zentangle" (done back in college,
probably during a class I was supposed to be paying attention
in LOL) and at least once during a slow day at work
(Waldenbooks) but that one I remember giving to one of
the guys in my Dungeons&Dragons playing group when he
came in that day to pay me a visit.

They're lovely. There's little chance of me doing one
these days... I don't think I sit still long enough anymore.
The past few hours "on here" I've been posting but getting
up and way from the computer after each one to do odd
things around the place (read/post, get dinner ready,
read/post, eat dinner, read/post, do dishes, read/post,
get a drink, read/post, get Alex's bath running, etc).

Thanks for sharing that, Ray. I saw the recent discussion on
zentangles and had no idea what they were. John
